Front-Wheel Drive

Like rear-wheel models, front-wheel power chairs offer a smooth ride. Unlike rear-wheel models, front-wheel power chairs are also great for obstacle climbing! The biggest wheel is at the front. This dramatically increases the height the chair can climb.

Mid-Wheel Drive

These powered wheelchairs have three sets of wheels and the pivot point of these chairs is right under the seat. Mid-wheel drive powerchairs are known for their manoeuvrability and they are incredibly nimble due to the fact that the power is in the middle of the wheelbase causing them to have a tight turning circle.

  • Sturdy and compact enough for small spaces
  • More manoeuvrability in some scenarios
  • Some can reach up to 8mph

Rear-Wheel Drive

They’re called ‘rear-wheel’ because the drive wheels are positioned at the back of the chair’s base. All the power comes from the back of the wheelchair. This helps users to propel over rough or softer terrain e.g. gravel or mud because it gives a better power transfer from the motors.
